If I were to ask you what you want most of all, I would venture a guess that you would name something material. Usually most people say more money or more time or a better job etc etc.

Actually, what you really want is the feeling those things would give you such as more freedom and more peace of mind. To make it even more general, you want to feel good in life.

This seems to be difficult for most to experience. The mind is so active and so hyper focused on what doesn’t feel good that it’s a challenge to feel good in life. There is much evidence that most people are running on stress and find it difficult to even get a good night’s sleep. The mind is never at rest and neither are you.

This is why deep relaxation is the key. Using simple deep relaxation techniques will change your life. How would you like to just feel good no matter what is happening around you? How would you like more energy and deep restorative sleep? I know you would.

Here’s how:

Deep Relaxation Technique:

Dedicate 2 minutes to deep breathing using the ‘2 minute 6 count breath’. Just this simple step creates a coherent state of being which is proven to create the relaxation response. Use this practice 3 times per day: in the morning before you get out of bed, during the afternoon and then just as you are going to go to sleep.

Set your phone alarm for 2 minutes. Sit in a quiet place with feet on the floor and hands in your lap. Put your hand on your heart to direct your attention away from your head. Take a slow deep long breath counting to 6 expanding your diaphragm and down into your belly. Exhale counting to 6. Counting gives your mind something to do and minimizes thoughts from intruding. Do this until the alarm goes off. Sit for one more minute and slowly open your eyes. This technique will take you through 12 cycles. This short breathing technique has been shown to create a deep relaxed state.

Want proof? This image shows how the heart rate looks when stressed on the bottom and how the heart rate looks relaxed on the top just after the 2 minute 6 count breath.

The benefits of practicing deep relaxation are many including: a general feeling of happiness, better health, better digestion, improved focus and concentration, easier learning and retention, increased blood flow, better circulation, reduced fatigue and more energy, lessens anger and frustration, deeper sleep and improved emotional well being to name a few.

Use this simple technique starting today and let it become a new habit. You will be rewarded with a happier healthier life.
